I made four saves so far... Incidentally, it's a little annoying that all the really interesting options in DA:O seem limited to noble characters. This is definitely why there's so much stuff I missed out on, I only played through with one noble character.

Are you talking about the dwarven noble having a kid or the human noble becoming king/queen?

For me, both 'noble' storylines were more interesting than the dwarf outcast, or human mage.

Yeah, though my favorite character was a city elf... granted that might just be because she romanced Leliana

Both. The best part is I never saw ANY of these outcomes, since I sacrificed my noble lady in the end.

Been playing during all my "off" time. I love this game. It's massive, it's fairly open, and the "meaty" story quests are interesting and epic. Also, there's an outright ugly love interest... (those DA elves got their noses broken regularly as babies or something) ...who I passed up for the other F-F love interest whose personality was more appealing to me. Then I unlocked more scenes with Sera and almost regretted it... ah well, there'll be more playthroughs.
People are howling about the "ugly" M-F romance options, but I died a little inside when I couldn't have a F-F romance with Cassandra. She's way hot.
Also, epic beards and 'staches on the males are awesome. Shame about the clipping on Blackwall's beard though.
Whoever it was who had trouble differentiating the characters, they just weren't paying attention. There's only one character that I find a little anonymous (more so than the one who literally IS anonymous), and I'll bet it's just a matter of getting into more personal dialogue.
And less it all be romancey stuff, it's a shame about the action combat system, but I can't get into the optional tactical system at all. I guess that's what easy difficulty is for, so I don't have to bother too much with the combat.

Yeah, the games great. I'm currently doing a character pursuing Sera, she's fun

. I don't use the tactical system often, but I pull it up when I'm in trouble

This game rocks! I totally love exploring through all the lush forest and greenery.
I'm still not very far along, but got to put the game on pause, as I'm getting booked up with RL stuff. I've decided to romance Josephine for my first playthrough with my female human inquisitor (Rogue class). The controls for the PC are not that bad to me. With smart key rebindings, it is workable. But combat is definitely a partial inconvenience. And I hate tactical mode, as it messes with my camera view. I hope I never have to rely on it, as the game gets tougher down the line.

I'm considering starting a new playthrough early, but I'm really on the fence about it cause of this xD. I've decided I would have rather romanced Josephine than Sera, but I already have almost 40 hours put into it. If I start over be set back, but in reference to how long the game is (which is a good thing) if I dont it will be a long time until I follow the path I want

. Ahh gamer problems

Haha nice. A thing they should add though is some fast-forward system like in Ren'Py games to skip already seen text/dialogues!

But how is the RPG part? I've heard good things about the story/characters/romance, but not much about the RPG. Seems that is less important than in previous titles, or am I wrong?
I'll play it myself too of course, but not now, too busy

I played it exclusively as an action RPG, which I don't care much for, but the tactical system is... slow, simplistic and boring. So, you unlock abilities and pound monsters with them in real time, but with the option to pause stuff and plan one move ahead if you feel like it. You can switch to your other party members though, which is nice if you want to change things up a bit, or need them to do something specific.
It's pretty much simplified almost to Mass Effect level.

The RPG stuff is great, very well made, I don't use the tactical view except for in major fights but its pretty good, a little buggy at times, but very good for boss type enemies, like that goddamn dragon.
One of these days Fereldan Frostback, one of these days, I will kill you...

RPG systems tend to be fiddly. Often people would spend hours fiddling with stats and numbers instead of playing the game itself, and most AAA RPGs are trying to step away from that aspect of RPGs to appeal to a wider audience. How are the RPG aspects of the game? Depends on how you define RPG, really.
There's no manipulation of attributes/stats involved, there's only 8 usable skills at a time, combat relies just as much on player input than how your character is built, inventory system is simplified. That being said exploration is awesome (now that they've fixed the search radar,) and there's "choice and consequence" in the game, although consequences affect your environment (ala the Walking Dead) rather than the story (like a lot of VNs.) That's a style option though and more a reflection that the technology isn't at a place where games can include satisfying choice and consequence without sacrifices. Hardcore RPGs will be upset that character customisation is diminished and you can't choose how you complete quests, most new players won't care though.
Bioware still don't know weapons and armour but we'll forgive them for that, considering Bethesda's no better categorising axes as "blunt weapons"...
Overall traditional RPG systems are being diluted but that's continuing a trend rather than starting one.

Ah thanks, very detailed info, exactly what I wanted to know

is interesting for me as game developer. As player I don't know yet... I mean at first thought I think I would be disappointed since I was raised with AD&D games with lots of stats, but on the other hand recently I have so few time to play, that I don't mind RPG (and "games" more in general) with less things to take care/remember, but still interesting mechanics (for example I love Heartstone and it has really FEW stats!).
Personally I plan to keep making a mix of the two... in some cases like SOTW more complex/traditional RPG gameplay, in others (like probably Loren 2) more "casual" gameplay

So finally I got the game, since this year I NEED to take it easier (having some health problem work/stress related).
I must say that now I understand completely how the players feels... I was in the early stages of the game with Cassandra and Leliana and I wanted to romance both!! but then discovered that I can't romance Leliana and I was like "AWWWWWWW"
