Poking about the demo right now... quick question: was the 'silly stuff' meant to be bonus only? Because otherwise, it's showing up in the gallery when I investigate. It is truly hilarious though! I just watched Otto 'save the day'
Typos spotted (with spoiler tags, since unsure if some of them count or not):
After getting Robert and Ebele clothing:
Robert: "Where you get these?" (should be 'where did you get these?')
Or is that not a typo, and Robert's meant to have an accent..? I never played the first two, and I just realized a lot more of the typos/grammar things seem to be in his speech than in anyone else's.

I noticed a little bug. It's not a big one, but I'm pretty sure that the game's not supposed to work that way. When you've just leveled up in an advanced skill and can't repeat that activity because your basic skills aren't high enough, the game won't let you rest. When I click the rest button, it tells me that I don't have the skills to do that activity (the same message I get when I try to train the advanced skill).
Also, when you get a Bad Ending for the various romances, is that because of your virtue/vice scores?

Some more typos at the Red Lantern:
Sometimes, the 'scarcely dressed' women should be 'scantily dressed' instead.
Ex:
"There were women scarcely dressed, but it was not nearly as provoking or cute as they said."
should be
"There were scantily dressed women, but it was not nearly as provocative or cute as they said."

Thanks for the typos, sleepykitten sent me a fixed version this morning but I had already uploaded the beta, so will check if she already made those corrections. I decided to make the silly stuff available for everyone
Will also check the rest bug and do an update probably tomorrow! thanks
Ah forgot, the romance failed depends only on the relationship. The virtues/sins influence only the profession endings. Let me know if you find the romances too hard to win. In theory if you pick ALL the right answers you should be close to the score of 90 (required to have a successful romance). Then with the random tavern events (those in which you can invite a character) you should be able to reach the 90 required points (they're not actually completely random, happens regularly). Of course some are harder and some are easier. John is one of the easiest since I considered him "canon ending". Sebastian probably one of the most difficult.
Anyway I might simply increase the starting value (right now is 10) to make things easier.

Comment: I splurged on the preorder anyway. Figure it gives me something nice to look forward to after exams.

Robert isn't native English, so his wording isn't perfect but it improves over time (since it's 3 years), so at the beginning there may be a word or two missing from his speech. >.>b Guess we can add that in the intro more backstory for Ebele/Robert to clarify a few things...
(When I was editing, wasn't sure how much to tackle Robert's sentences. Only a few seemed obviously fragmented, so I assumed that Robert, at this point, pretty much grasped English besides a few errors here or there. Didn't know if I should remove fragments, or make it more obvious English isn't his native language... Trying to find the best balance here. ^^
And I'll make those other corrections and send them to you, Jack, ASAP. ^^v

Sebastien is definitely hard. So far, I've not been able to get his score past 76 by the critical date, despite multiple attempts. ^_^' I found Morgan to be the easiest, in fact he's the only one I've managed. From my experiences thus far, I'd have to say that I wouldn't mind the relationship score starting a bit higher, but maybe it's just me having a difficult time.

All of the colony activities have a person who when invited along gives you +3 bonus except farmer... is that an error? I invited everyone along for that job and to most bonus i got was 2+ with Ebele. and Robert's the only person who doesn't have a job in which inviting him +3

Having a problem after I set the game to fullscreen on Mac, then quit. Tried to start it up again and the screen is completely black, and I can't do anything but listen to the opening soundtrack or force quit.
Tried reinstalling but it still opens back up in fullscreen mode with a nonresponsive black screen.

Found out how to fix it by pressing alt-enter, but I figured you guys would want to know about this anyway

No probably I need to adjust it based on the difficulty. I'll check the script better, want to balance the characters (of course someone harder is fine, but should still be possible to get him).

Indeed he should give you +3 in Farming! good catch will fix this on next update

Thanks, will let Ren'Py coder know. I know there are several problems of the latest Ren'Py version on Mac (as those who player the Loren beta a few months ago know well!! ). Can you tell me more info about your Mac? Os version and video card?

So far i've had no problem getting endings with Morgan and John, but i keep getting bad endings with Johnathan and Sebastien. I've tried multiple times, but the points never seem to be enough to get a good ending. I'll get at most a score of (around) 85 for Johnathan and 76 for Sebastien. Aside from that, loving the game so far

Huh for me, I've been failing with *everybody* and I know what to pick because I read the script. OTZ
Watch me fail in the yuri version. "I FAILED TO ROMANCE EBELE!? I WROTE HER ENTIRE ROUTE!"

LOL!!
Anyway, I'm uploading version 0.72 now. I noticed that in Morgan there was a choice for +10 points, while the others didn't had it. For John is not needed since he has slightly more events, but for Jonathan/Sebastian yes. Also, I added a menu in the beginning where you choose the difficulty and that changes the starting relationships: 20 at Easy, 15 at Normal and 10 at Hard (like is now).
When the yuri version will be out I'll need to rebalance everything, since like happens for the males, for each female character route you can score points also for the other love interests (including males). So in practice if you'll get both versions the game will be overall easier But still you should be able to win even at Hard level with all the romances!
thesleepykittenDec 10, 2012
Jack will need to create a special 'Kitty Mode' just for me where everyone starts off with 50 affection, and professions already unlocked.
(Also be struggling in Spirited Heart 2 with its complex stat-raising and boy-chasing, yo. >.>b )
jack1974Dec 10, 2012
Ok found a minor bug related to "you don't have the requirement to rest" so I'm fixing this before reuploading 0.72! Will take a few hours
jack1974Dec 10, 2012
Just uploaded version 0.72 with a bunch of fixes (see first post, I updated it). Let me know if now you manage to get all the romances! At Normal level I think now is possible, at Easy for sure. In Hard mode, don't know...

Got as far as the demo period would let me and here is my opinions so far (minus the bug I posted on twitter).
- Opening title music. I think it is very appropriate.
- Love the first page of text explaining the controls. Is there anyway to make it more centralised on the screen rather than wide? Would be a pain in the butt but would make it look completely separate from the story text and look more professional.
- The quick recap at the beginning fills new players in just enough who haven't played the rest of the series.
- The drop in quality of the Cabin background is noticeable compared to the rest. It mostly looks fine but I think the bed and chest need to be touched up or redone to keep the game at the same standard.
- I also love the use of the term 'un-man you'.
I only have one idea to put forward. I have been thinking about levelling your skills on the ship and the 'mindless clicking process' in levelling up your basic skills. As all the professions require two skills in order to achieve them how about on one day one of the skills is unavailable and when you try and click on it it says something like "Oh it looks like (insert name) has already done it. Guess I will have to find something else to do." On the other end of this there could be certain days where someone can help you with a task and you can gain bonuses from doing it with them. Pros - It would stop non stop clicking a bit. Cons - Pain to implement, might annoy some people.
jack1974Dec 10, 2012
Thanks for the suggestions! I thought about some ways to break the mindless clicking process, but doing what you said could annoy people if they are trying to get a specific profession ending I think...
