I guess they're talking about Fate Stay Night which allegedly had ~800k words (about the length of two and a half Robert Jordan novels), though FSN had three routes so you had a little break after each third. Most of the VNs seem to come in significantly less. It's hard to find reliable stats, but I'm seeing numbers of around 250k-500k for your average Japanese VN.

On the other hand japanese VN have usually x10 times the budget of the average indie western author

Anyway I might move this discussion in another forum if you want to continue it, since it's a bit OT vs the game thread :)

By the way I just added Sylrissa edited texts in the game and... total wordcount is now 275k

OK at this point I don't think anymore the 300k barrier is too high, since there are still a few main plot scenes and all the endings/epilogues left to write!

The word count in F/SN is definitely insane (I've heard >1M, but I'm not going to count), but there is soo much repetition and endless internal monologue, it nearly breaks the game. For every great idea, there's a character repeating a phrase 50 times in slow motion on a dark background, to show mental deterioration or something.

Well if you think about it there are western books series that are also about that long they just tend to separate them in several books. Lord of the rings trilogy has 733,023 words, it still is a one story and it's not stretched out.

OK the ONLY thing left for act2 are the new vampire lieutenant bossfight texts. For that I was waiting the game writer but I just emailed him to see if we could do it differently and speed up things.

The good thing is that I have already coded a lot of things for act3, and also written all the epilogues. I need only to write the final boss battles. I'm rather happy how the endings turned out since it answers some questions people had in Loren, like why Karen was kidnapped by lizardmen, etc.

I love how vulnerable Sylrissa looks in the image. :air_kiss_2:

Cool, there are more scenes in which she is like that :)

(also many others where she just run around cutting enemies in half of course )

the text above is seen only if you play as Bard profession. This game is so big also because there's a lot of branching depending on race/profession. Hopefully people will take time to play it more than once picking different options to enjoy it :)

a scene from Sylrissa's personal quest (available in act 3 but I am coding it already while I wait). I really love how this turned out, it's hilarious but also touching at same moment. I'm pretty sure that poor mage will tell the truth!

Heading towards the end of Sylrissa's romance route. It's good to have almost act3 fully coded even before I update the game with act2

With each character you can pursue just a friendship relationship, so you still unlock their bonus equipment/skill/upgrade but not necessarily the romance CG.

One of the bonus scenes in which Sylrissa shows up half-drunk, and remembers the name of an amazon wine badly...

When we are on topic, I was allays wondering about difference of how demons are portrayed in Spirited Heart and other Avaron games, in SP they aren't really evil or anything while in other Avaron games they seem to be evil by nature, so I was wondering if something happened in between those games that we don't know about or if we are simply happening to come across bad demons in most of Avaron games and they ware never really all evil?
jack1974
Well demons are one thing, Demon goddess/demon lords are another :) The former will be more accepted while the latter are still "evil".

Yes things will change, Spirited Heart is set more in the "future" and demons can even have their own shops/restaurant (Yuza for example). It's a bit like how Dark Elves were at beginning of Loren or Amber's, and how they'll be treated after those games.

good news writer sent me the updated bossfights (are minor text variations only) and I've started coding them. Above is yet another new background to this game, which now has 94 different ones and about 25 unique :o

Wow amasing background! I already LOVE this mysterious dark place *o*

Glad to know we're going to see a pack of brand new backgrounds! Yay! :gamer:
jack1974
Haha, actually I had to change it  because it was supposed to be really a barren wasteland, with no tree or mountains. A flat surface in practice. But I can always reuse that bg in a future game.
